With deepest regret, Bishop Simpson announced this morning that Fr. Morgan Speer departed this life around eleven o’clock Sunday night. Father Morgan was a member of the Bishop’s Council, the Diocesan Chancellor, a long-time friend of Church of the Messiah, a husband and father of two young sons. No further arrangements have been made public at this time. Please pray for the family during their time of grief.
The Patriarch sent these words out to the clergy of the Diocese of Florida this afternoon:
This is indeed sad news. Fr. Speer was such a loyal and faithful son of the Church. His work in the local and national church will long be remembered. He helped steer this communion through many difficult times. When many would have abandoned, Fr. Speer not only kept his vows but worked even more tirelessly to help the Church. He was a good family man, an honest businessman, and a faithful priest. But most importantly he was an adopted son, by the blood of Jesus, of the Father. May His soul rest in peace.
Funeral arrangements have been finalized. The funeral service will be held on Friday, September 2nd, at 7:30 p.m. at the Cathedral Church of the Resurrection, 6701 SW 25th St., Miramar, Florida. The internment will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 3rd, at Gulf Pines Memorial Park, 2401 Englewood Road, Englewood, Florida.
